What is Hum-Num-Num?

Hum-Num-Num was a branding project I did for a class in Fall of 2017. In this project I had to rebrand a previous designed project. The project I selected was a step by step recipe book. This recipe book inspired me to create a children’s cooking camp. Hum Num Num is a camp that teaches cooking and nutritional values in a fun way.

The kids grow, gather, and cook food that is around the camp. They learn about the different plants,  how to take care of them, the best time to harvest them, and how to cook the different ingredients they find. Hum-Num-Num provides an affordable camp experience that both parents and kids can appreciate.

The Mission

Hum-Num-Num is a summer camp for children between the ages of 7-13 that teaches basic cooking skills, mixing and matching food through different life-skills activities. This camp aims to help launch young adults who understand the value of proper nutrition. Children are expected to challenge themselves and explore their surrounding to establish a deep connection within themselves!

Project Challenge

The challenge of this project was to use a previous work and turning it into a brand. A brand that carries a good design, and a strong design system that works across a variety of platforms.Creating a brand experience that mirrors the brand design (in its fun and energetic look) was also challenging.

Project Solution

A brand identity was created that can be seen in wide variety of touch points for Hum-Num-Num. We wanted our camp to stand out, being the most affordable and beneficial fun experience for kids. A Pocket camper book was created so kids can carry it around the camp and take notes or follow the guidelines for the activities. Through the different touch points a brand guide was followed to protect the integrity of the Brand, in this guide book we followed color use, logo use and sizing and different important guideline to maintain a playful look with the right balance.

Audience Needs

  •  Stronger nutritional background delivered in a fun way

  • Affordable summer program for kids (most summer programs are over price making them unaffordable for a lot of families)

  • A diverse program that teaches different cultures through food

  • Learning made fun with illustrations and the colors. Kids are encouraged to learn, changing their learning experience

  • A safe place for kids to be in summer (for three weeks), while their work.

App Interface

How Does the App Work

The Hum-Num-Num app uses photo streaming for campers, where they can snap pics of their daily activities and post them for camp points that they can collect later on for extra activity time. This app is beneficial for campers because it allows them to keep social ties that they created during camp. It can also help reassure parents that their kids are having a good time while they’re at camp. Campers collect

The Camp Site

The Hum-Num-Num camp is located in the Yosemite Valley overlooking a small lake. When the kids first arrive at the campsite, they will see a large welcoming banner and the Hum-Num-Num Staff greeting them. Throughout the site, there are directional signage, maps and warning signs to help lead campers and keep them out of harm’s way. The camp’s design and theme is unified with our main mark and icons.
